Its investigation, which may take many months, will determine the cause of the collision and make recommendations. Metro has been using Automatic Train Operations to operate its Metrorail trains during rush hours and other times of day since the Metrorail system opened in 1976. As a precaution, Metrorail trains currently are being operated manually by train operators until further notice.
