Did anyone like Spider Man 3?
I think the biggest thing it had going against it was that it was following a sequel that was just about perfect in every way: Spider Man 2. Alfred Molina as Doc Ock? Is that even fair? I think this movie knew what it was up against and tried to do too much. The whole Mary Jane being used by Harry was way too cliche, and seemed almost an afterthought. I think they could have easily established Peter’s changing state with a couple more shots of “vigilante-style” crime fighting while wearing the black suit, rather than showing him thinking he was cool with his collar flipped up. If we could have substitued even half of the Mary Jane plotline with scenes of Eddie Brock as Venom, that would have been a slam dunk. From what I know of the comics, Eddie truly saw himself as a good guy, and as Venom, he was fighting “bad guys”, but in a very violent manner ala The Punisher. We didn’t even get one scene of him learning his powers…it went right from the church to him tracking down the Sandman.
