No, I don’t think so. First of all, I am no fan of the GOP and the policies and politics of the last many years as the federal ‘tax cuts’ were basically sleight of hand that left many states with unfunded mandates that had to be funded by new sources of revenue and program cuts. California might be further in the hole than a lot of the other states but I don’t think Schwarzenegger ‘adhered’ to the party’s economic theories as much as your question assumes. On the other hand, I do concur that exclusive adherance to supply side economic theory for almost 30 years resulted in an economic imbalance and the meltdown we are currently experiencing. So…hmmm…you may be right. Maybe I would say a more accurate phrasing would be ‘contributed to’ rather than ’caused’ the deficit in California, more than some, and less than other governors in their own states around the country.
