Did Cubism really inspire camouflage?

There’s a good article on the subject at the source link. I think necessity is what led to the development of modern camouflage, and it continues to develop to this day. I tend to think that the military mind is not all that interested in art, though they’re willing to take inspiration from wherever they come across it. I say that as a veteran myself. So though it’s certainly possible that cubism played some role, it’s more likely that camouflage developed and evolved rather naturally and independently from art. It was a sort of convergent evolution rather than a direct influence. But that would really just be my guess. When certain ideas start spreading, they can have a subconscious effect on everyone and an original thought may have actually been seeded by something else. So I won’t deny the possibility, but I continue to suspect the two were independent. Sources: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/4364ae
