Did Kevin draw on previous characters he had played when playing Richard II?
KS: I know from myself that all of the work that I have done over the past number of years, I wouldn’t have been ready for Richard II a year ago. But I didn’t know that a year ago. I think you draw upon your own experiences and there’s no question that we come here night after night, and although we have a foundation, a template, what we’re trying to reach is a connection between ourselves and an audience. There’s no doubt that you walk on this stage every night and whatever is happening in your life, you cannot deny it. What you try to do is put it to use. Use it in such a way that, in a sense, it becomes like a drama rather than being so nervous that you are incapable of performing. You take that and you feed it into something so that if you’re in a good mood or a bad mood or angry or whatever it is that is happening during your day, you infuse that into your work and I think that there is no doubt that every experience you have in your life, whether it’s playing a character or somet
