Yes. The district reached agreement with the Davis Teachers Association and the California School Employees Association representing classified employees (secretaries, maintenance staff, paraeducators, library technicians, custodians, and school nutrition workers) to work five fewer days in 2010-11 for reduced salary. During this school year, staff will work 179 days and students will attend 175 of those days. What is the benefit of employee agreements and community fundraising? The district was facing the elimination of 88.3 full-time positions for a total budget reduction of $5.6 million. Employee agreements narrowed that gap by $1.178 million. Community donations in the form of a $1.4 million grant from the Davis Schools Foundation further closed the gap. As a result, the district was also able to recover $410,000 in class size reduction penalties from the state.
