Did the mastabas of Egypt petrify (turn into stone) over time?

No they are there as beautiful as you can imagine. Come see them by yourself, visit Sakkara and you will find tens of mastabas built of stones. You can enter them and you will sees magnificent carvings and paintings inside in color. They represent daily activities like fishing, planting, making jewelery, harvesting, playing games similar to chess, milking cows, boats with sailors and a captain in action, carrying fruits and vegetables, slaughtering cows and buffaloes etc. They are well preserved because they were covered with sands inside and outside. The mud brick mastabas did not turn into another material, they are as they were but not as well preserved as stone mastabas.
