Tycrid Platform Technologies, a startup founded last year to develop high-performance computing systems based on graphics cards, has launched the Prometheus Alliance — a membership organization focused on promoting new high performance computing solutions in bioinformatics. The organization’s website does not indicate that the alliance currently has members other than Tycrid. According to Prometheus Alliance’s mission statement, graphics processing units have matured and are inspiring “a growing confidence” in GPU-based computing. However, the task of integrating GPU-computing solutions is “too large for any one company to take on,” according to the alliance.
