Disney did design or help design some of the very early characters (Oswald, Mickey etc), but Walt himself was not considered a remarkable artist or animator, at least in comparison to the other talent at his studio. This is why he did very little actual work in drawing and animation, but did what he was best at – which was show the other animators how they needed to bring the characters to life. He was an incredible visionary and storyteller, and would act out the parts of the characters for the animators, and run through the reels in minute detail demanding the changes that made the characters live the way they do. It’s not easy to find examples of any of his actual work, and I don’t know of any online. I don’t recall even my favourite book on animation (“The Illusion of Life”, by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, a history of Disney animation) specifically showing any drawings by Walt.
