Didn the SS396 come with bucket seats and a console?
• A – Not as standard equipment. In fact, bucket seats and console were options not only on the SS396, but the Malibu 2-Door Sport Coupe & Convertible and the Custom El Camino as well. Bucket seats (RPO A51) could be ordered without a console (RPO D55) but ordering a console required bucket seats to be ordered as well. Additionally, if an automatic with floor mounted shifter was ordered the automatic shifter required a console which in turn required bucket seats. Either manual transmission (3-speed or 4-speed) could be ordered with the standard bench seat and no console. Also contrary to popular belief, a heavy duty 3-speed manual transmission was standard equipment on a SS396 – all other transmissions were optional.
