Didn’t the state just agree to allow an increase in the per pupil spending by $210?
Yes. The school district is grateful for the increase in funding from the state but those funds do not come close to replacing the revenues that come from the School Operating Millage. On August 15, 2006, Governor Granholm signed budgets that will allow local districts to receive increased funding to schools. However, only $16 per pupil will come from the state, the remaining $194 per pupil must be obtained locally through non-homestead property taxes. The renewal must pass in order for the district to receive the small increase in revenues.
