Yes, they are still used e.g. around places like Bristol and Newport, for shunting and light freight. Btw some of them have been upgraded to class 09, with more powerful engine, higher gearing giving a top speed of 25mph instead of the 08’s 15mph, and dual braking, i.e. air as well as vacuum.
