Do books for teenagers now focus to much on “contemporary” issues (relationships, family angst etc etc)?

I’m 21 now so I wasn’t a teenager that long ago. When I read a book I want something to escape from. I recently had a situation happen & when I read it in the book I was reading, it annoyed me because this is what I wanted to escape from. Whilst it is nice to read something you relate to now & again, sometimes it’s just too much. There isn’t enough out there for teenagers that makes you think & think. There’s too much focus on family issues & relationships. Blah blah blah. Lets have a nice simple story about how the tiger who came to tea but teenaged up a bit. It can be a rebel tiger with dyed pink stripes instead of orange, I can relate to that but it’s nothing heavy so that’s cool.
