Do Cats Really Have 9 Lives?
All I know is it took one really big truck to hit her and that was the only life threatening thing she ever encountered and it was certainly her last. (She was an indoor cat since birth and got outside that morning.) According to Brewer’s Dictionary Of Phrase & Fable, a cat is said to have nine lives because it is “more tenacious of life than many animals.” There is also some very interesting folklore associated with the testing of cats to see just how far they could fall and what their survival rate was. Cats are so agile and wary that they can get out of many a scrape, and people used to say it was as if they had nine lives, because situations that would have killed an ordinary fish or fowl hardly seemed to faze your usual kitty. But perhaps modern living has made cats soft. It seems like nowadays cats are often prone to kidney problems and the like. Of course, they are probably living five times longer than they used to. My gray feline is going on 16, and is beginning to slow down a tick.

I don’t believe too, especially Himalayan. I think in old age, the cat lived in wild or didn’t spoil so much, they learn how to survive in the bad environment, so they had longer lives. Now we spoil the cat so much, groom them, brush them, prepare the good food for them too…so…I think the cat is earlier to get sick than the old age….. I heard when people say, Cat has 9 lives…because when a cat falls, they know how to land and didn’t get hurt, not like human and other animals, that’s why they say “cat has 9 lives” because they don’t die easier when they fall…..
