Do cattle moving through dips and spelling yards have to be read?
Cattle moving through transit centres (dips and spelling yards) are not required to have their NLIS device individually read. These movements will be reported as a mob-based movement to the NLIS database. Cattle owners and producers with animals using these facilities must provide: • the number of animals in the consignment • the PIC the cattle came from • the PIC of the clearing centre or transit centre • the NVD/Waybill the animals travelled on recorded on the NLIS database. Operators of these facilities may choose to establish infrastructure to enable the reading of cattle and communication with the database as a fee-for-service activity to assist clients in the transfer of animals to different properties.
