Do cranberry tablets help kidney stones?

When I had mine I was told that cranberry juice was the way to go, not the tablets. It seemed to work.

I copied this from a web site… In the early 1920s, American scientists discovered that people who eat large amounts of cranberries have more acid in their urine than those who do not eat high amounts of the berry. Because bacteria cannot survive in an acidic environment, the researchers speculated that a diet rich in cranberries may help prevent and treat urinary tract infections (UTIs), which are commonly caused by bacteria known as Escherichia coli. In time, the popularity of cranberry for UTIs soared and many women reported satisfactory results from drinking cranberry juice. Although the scientific explanations for its purported benefits have changed throughout the years, there is a significant amount of evidence today to support the use of cranberries to prevent and treat UTIs. If you go to this site there are some things you can take for kidney stones…

I am not sure about kidney stones since they have already developed, but cranberry tablets have been used for myself and I have used them on my animals for over thirty years. I had a cat who suffered from a blockage and cystitis and had to have the bladder drained by a veterinarian many times. However, all the catheterazation did was to push the blockage back into the bladder so the urine could flow through the uretha. After about two weeks of giving her the tablets, the putty like blockage softened and she was able to pass it and never had another episode. I hope this helps people with pets who have this problem. Urinary blockage is painful and can cause death in a very short period of time and giving the tablets should help, but you need to be observant and watch for signs of the uretha being blocked with no signs of ANY urine being passed.

Cranberries do help. In fact, the best way to prevent kidney stones is not to eat cranberries or drink the juice. The best method I have found is to pour a few cans of cranberry sauce (like the kind you eat during thanksgiving) into a warm bath. Massage it into you lower back where your kidneys are located as if it was an oil. By the next day, your kidney stones will be gone!
