Do digestive enzymes work?

Digestive enzymes are very effective. Many of us need them to adequately digest our foods. It is also an excellent idea to do a whole body detox in order to rid your system of all the gunk that has piled up. You also might want to look at pro-biotics in order to place the good bacteria into your system. There is a product called Prob-Zyme that includes both the digestive enzymes and pro-biotics. Remember, for us to maintain good health, it all starts in our digestive system. That is where the foods are broken down and filtered through our bodies. If we have a digestive system that isn’t working properly, forget about it. Also, do the whole body detox every 6 months.

I assume you mean the kind you buy at the “health” food store and take in pill form. If you have a genuine medical condition where you aren’t able to make your own digestive enzymes,(eg pancreatic insufficiency, cystic fibrosis) then in order to properly digest food, you would need to take them in supplement form. Unfortunately, the version sold in health food stores doesn’t work. The reason is that enzymes are just a special kind of protein molecule, and as soon as they are exposed to the stomach acids they break down and are digested themselves. The prescription versions of digestive enzymes are specially formulated to pass through the stomach first. They have no effect at all on constipation. If you don’t have a disease where your body doesn’t make its own, then there is no reason for you to take digestive enzyme supplements, you are just wasting your money.

Try fiber pills and papaya, even if you don’t suffer from digestive conditions the fiber and the natural enzymes from papaya are good for you.
