People who eat a diet high in meat and fish and low in dairy, and those who abuse alcohol are likely to have high UA levels. However, there is growing evidence that fructose (sugar found naturally in fruit and honey, and a key ingredient in high-fructose corn syrup, which is added to many prepared foods), may play an even more significant role in increasing UA levels.
