Do firefighters need a special license to drive a fire trucks in a parade or to a fire?
When a firefighter is operating a fire department vehicle in an emergency mode OR a non emergency mode such as a parade, the operator does not need to have a CDL by state law. Fire trucks in Minnesota are NOT commercial vehicles by statute, so they do not need anything more than a regular class D license. Although some cities may require a CDL.
