Do hemp seeds contain omega-3?

0

Dear W, The oil from hempseeds does contain omega-3 fatty acid in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (LNA) with up to 15-20% of the oil being represented by LNA. It is noted that flax seed oil contains 50-60% of the fatty acids as LNA while non-hydrogenated canola oil has approximately 10%. In addition hemp seed oil is a source of a somewhat less common omega-6 fatty acid known as GLA (Gamma-Linolenic acid) with 2-4% being represented by GLA. Evening primrose oil contains approximately 7% by weight as GLA, black currant seed oil has approximately 15%, and borage oil has approximately 23% of the total fatty acids present as GLA.
