I am a massage therapist. No, you do not neccessarily have to go through a 4 year program, college, or whatever to become a massage therapist. The requirements to become a massage therapist vary from state to state in the US and sometimes from city to city in some states. To find out your state's requirements, visit www.massagetherapy.com, click on "Become a Massage Therapist" and then click "State Boards and Requirements". I would actually advise going to a holistic massage school that specializes in massage and healing work. I can personally attest to the quality of education that you will get from a school that is dedicated to this work alone. Most programs require you to be a high school graduate, at least 18 years of age. Other requirements vary from school to school. I've seen programs that last anywhere from 100 to1,000 hours.
