The Flint 2000EX is specially designed for applying preformed thermoplastic because the fan-shaped nozzle ensures even heating and reduces the likelihood that the surface glass beads will sink too much which can result in lower initial retroreflectivity. However, other propane heat torches can still be used but with caution so that too much direct heat doesn't sink the beads.
