Do modern and fossil volcanic arcs posess a unique set of geophysical signatures?
The aim of this project was to investigate reported gravity, magnetic, seismic and magnetotelluric signatures of a range of modern and ancient arc systems, both continental and intra-oceanic. Serpentinisation of the suprasubduction zone mantle wedge was identified as being the most likely process to generate long-term observable geophysical responses for mapping fossil arc systems within later orogenic belts.
