It really depends on if the cat had already developed a habit of spraying before being neutered. My mother took in a stray. The vet estimated China’s age to be about three years when he started coming around. Mama fed him outside for about three months, planning not to take him in. Of course, she did. He had a well-established routine of spraying. She did have him neutered, but he continued to spray. She got him to stop spraying things inside the house by spraying him with water using a 99 cent spray bottle with a trigger handle. He still sprayed the bushes outside routinely, would spray our tires after we got home from work, and would spray anything that another cat had come by and sprayed. He still occasionally sprayed indoors, but he had pretty well stopped that after about three years of Mama adopting him. Needless to say, it was a long road.
