Yes. Cattle being droved on the stock route must be identified with an approved NLIS device. The device must be read prior to catttle entering the stock route. The NLIS database will also need to be notified of the individual numbers of the cattle transferred to the stock route property identification code (PIC). Stock route PICs can be confirmed with the local stock inspector for the shire. The notification needs to occur within 48 hours of the movement taking place. Stock also need to be transferred to the new stock route PIC of the new shire whenever the animals cross shire boundaries. However animals do not need to be re-read each time they cross shire boundaries. The NLIS device numbers for the travelling stock can be stored or saved on a disk enabling the person responsible for the stock to arrange for transfers on the database within 48 hours of crossing shire boundaries.
