Do people shoot at the protected birds?
The mentality has changed a bit on the protected birds. You don’t see many shot anymore. What are the changes you’ve seen in the Delta during your eight years of working there? I’ve seen a big increase in houseboats moving on the river. Threefold increase, I’d say. And every one of them has brought, on average, one or two Jet Skis. When I first got down here, you mostly saw people out there bream fishing and working their crappie holes. Those folks are now gone on the weekend. The weekends are pretty much taken over by Jet Ski-ers and the big-time bass clubs. Do you think the traffic and noise from the boats and Jet Skis are having an effect? To me, they do. It’s like the alligators. Everybody’s crying and wanting to have open season on the alligators. I don’t see them. There’s so many people boating in the remote areas, they’ve shot out and run them off. As far as the big ones, I don’t see them anymore. I’ve seen two this year. Usually I’ve seen 10 or 20 that are 10 foot or bigger. An
