Do pharmacists need additional training to prescribe?
No. Most pharmacists have five years of university education in drugs and drug therapy. Until now that expertise has been used only to provide advice to other health professionals. Providing advice will continue to be an important part of pharmacist practice. However, with the new authority, pharmacists will be able to take responsibility for drug-therapy decisions.
