Do plants grow better with lake water, tap water or distilled water?
Tap Water Tap water from municipal sources is treated with chemicals such as fluoride and chlorine. These chemicals may produce excessive salt buildup in the soil, altering the amount of nutrition available and injuring plant tissue. Hard water, normally associated with wells, contains calcium or magnesium, both of which may harm plants. Lake Water Lake water is natural, but most lake waters have microscopic organisms living in the water as well as parasites. Lake water is not always pure because of pollution and should not be used on plants. Distilled Water Distilled water is the recaptured steam from water vaporized by boiling. The process eliminates impurities and none are reintroduced. Although it is free of salt and has no contamination, it is expensive to use. Distilled water, however, is the best choice for plants.
