Congress doesn’t have “vacation days”. They are paid whether they show up or not. If you don’t like it, you’re welcome to vote him or her out in the next election. They always show up for important votes, though they generally skip the bogus “We hereby designate this National Peanut Butter And Banana Month” resolutions. Those actually aren’t the most important work of Congress, which consists of committee meetings to negotiate bills, participating in oversight committees, hammering out deals in murky cloakrooms, etc. They do miss a lot of that. The work of Congress is kind of sporadic; they actually do most of their work out of the office anyway. Governors and mayors have much more daily participation in their jobs, and you’ll notice that Huckabee, Giuliani, and Romney are all retired from their previous jobs. Your senators and representatives also have the job of representing you Washington. If you have a problem, you’re supposed to be able to call your Senator/Rep and have them take
