Do red kangaroos capture their prey?
Red kangaroos are herbivores. They live in the most arid parts of Australia and need to get most of their water requirement from what they eat. Therefore they will eat just about anything – grasses, weeds, leaves and other plants. In some areas they are considered pests because they eat grass that is intended for cattle. In ideal conditions – such as irrigated pastures or areas with artificial dams or water troughs – they reproduce and multiply very fast and can destroy a lot of good pasture with continuous feeding. This has led to culls in some areas. In their natural habitat, droughts often lead to huge dieoffs, sometimes of whole mobs, by starvation and dehydration.
