Do reference letters (or reference forms for individual fellowship programs) require a specific format or length?

Fellowship applicants should inform their referees that reference forms are required to be submitted using the form found at References for Fellowship Awards format (MS Word – 50 KB). This applies to all individual fellowships (F30, F31, F32, and F33). Reference forms must be no longer than two pages in length and must be converted to PDF format before being submitted via the eRA Commons. Guidance is provided in Section 5.4 of the SF 424 (R&R) Fellowship Application Guide. Reference letters for mentored career development grant programs (K01, K07, K08, K18, K22, K23, K25, and K99) do not require a specific format. Guidance is provided in Section 7.3 of the SF 424 (R&R) application guide.
