No. “Secret Societies” such as the Freemasons and Roscrucians, are the remnant of Hermetic/Gnostic medieval Christian groups such as the Knights of Templar. They are mainly concerned with fraternity and, in the higher orders, with mystical and very ancient knowledge, leading to “enlightenment.” The traditional Christian hierarchy during the middle ages felt that this was threatening, accused the Templars of heresy, and put an end to them but remnants of the group have persisted through the ages. Up until the late 19th century, they more or less had a mystical Judeo-Christian flavor to them. Esotericists belonging to these groups took an interest in other and ancient religion, mysticism, and magic. Then they started forming magical lodges such as the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and the Ordo Templis Orientis. They are not interested in “destroying” anything; they are interested in following their own philosophical and spiritual disciplines and leaving others to follow theirs.
