Do Sprints increase long-distance endurance?
Yes sprints do have benefits to long distance running. It teaches your body to start running anaerobically at the end of a race for that “last kick”. But you have to do them fast and you have to do quite a few for it to be beneficial. For example in track, we would do about 8, 100m all-out. “If you start to feel like you’re going to throw up, it means the work out is working” is what the coach always told us. Trust me, it does make you feel terrible but during the race, it helps a lot. Also we do 22, 200ms at a swift but not sprinting pace (jogging in between) which helps build endurance and speed.
