Do squirrels hibernate in the winter?
The two species of squirrel found the UK (red squirrel Sciurus vulgaris and grey squirrel Sciurus carolinensis) do not hibernate. during milder winter days both species will be fairly active just after dawn and they usually return to their dreys by mid-morning. On very cold or wet days, they tend not to leave the drey as they would expend too much energy to make it worthwhile foraging.
