Do STP operations create water temperature problems?

No, because no water from STP is directly discharged into the Colorado River. Some power plants, both nuclear and fossil-fueled, have temperature restrictions on water if it is taken from a river, then discharged directly back into the river. Such restrictions are an outgrowth of concerns over fish habitat, algae growth, etc. Water used for cooling STP is taken from the 7,000-acre cooling reservoir on STP property. After passing through the power plants, the water is discharged back into the reservoir. Warmed cooling water from STP does not flow directly into the Colorado River.
