I think it depends to some extent on the school. One of my daughters teaches at an outer capital city (Australian) high school which is located in a fairly low socioeconomic area and while they have some discipline and attendance problems, the teachers don’t receive abuse – it would simply not be tolerated and the kids know it. Other schools in the same general area have more problems but the situation is still under control and teacher abuse is rare and never tolerated. In better areas, discipline and attendance is very good, probably mainly because parents in those areas work with the school rather than against it when it comes to sorting out kids with behaviour problems. My daughter is very happy teaching at her school and says that the good and middling kids more than make up for the problem kids. Her friend is now teaching at the same school having just spent a couple of years supply teaching in London. She can’t get over the difference between her new school and the ones in Londo
