Do the Greek Week t-shirts send off the wrong message?
Frostburg’s Greek Week is an annual tradition. This year, five teams took place in six days of events to determine who the best of the best is. The festivities are all good fun for everyone involved. However, this year, controversy arose over the event’s t-shirts. Each team wears the Greek Week t-shirt in their designated color. The 2010 shirt bears the slogan, “Frostburg Greeks, mixing business with pleasure since 1931.” Next to those words, there is a decal of a man in formal wear holding up a martini glass where a female’s silhouette is lounging. The slogan and the image have received mixed reviews. “I don’t think it’s helping their image at all. When anyone thinks of sororities or frats, [alcohol] is what they think of automatically, anyway,” remarked freshman Lauren Kuhn, who is currently not affiliated with any Greek organizations.
