Do Vanish Messages really remain encrypted forever?

Not quite. A Vanish message will remain encrypted only for as long as the encryption algorithm is not broken. The default encryption algorithm we use is AES with 128-bit keys and CBC mode; all of these parameters are configurable and you can obtain greater security by overriding them.
