Do vegans have a problem getting iodine?
In the first study below (1) 12 raw-food-vegans and 12 non-vegans were compared for iodine levels in their diet and in their urine. They were also tested for thyroid activity. Some of the vegans were taking Kelp regularly. Although none of the subjects had any thyroid problems, they generally had either too little or too much iodine in their diet. The high levels measured in the diet would cause problems in some individuals.
