The present LCCT was built to be a cargo terminal and never intended to be a permanent terminal for AirAsia. The new KLIA-East Terminal – the Rakyat’s Terminal – will be built to cater for an eventual 50 million passengers. Even with the current LCCT expansion to accommodate 15 million passengers a year, the terminal at Sepang will be unable to sustain AirAsia’s passenger volume within one year. Further expansion to this present terminal is not possible due to site constraints.
