Illegal gambling is illegal gambling. Unlawful expansion of gambling in Duval County should not be permitted. Shutting these illegal businesses down will ultimately allow law enforcement personnel to devote their attention to more dire emergencies. Again, in the past year, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to 80 service calls regarding these Internet cafes. That is an unnecessary drain on resources. Since there is no reason to expect a drop in these calls, these establishments need to be dealt with as soon as possible in order to allow the Sheriff’s office to respond to calls that are more dangerous and do more to protect the general populace. The local legislation will help end illegal gambling in Duval County.
