No, you do NOT need a prescription for either the glucose meter or the test strips.  Both are available over-the-counter at your favorite drug store.  Meters are heavily subsidized by the manufacturers.  Try to find a meter that has a rebate or instant refund near the purchase price.  Test strips are best purchased on the web for substantial discount.
