Do you think corporates will soon dominate the Indian film industry?
The Indian film industry — with all its facets, has historically been a fragmented segment, dominated by a few families and individuals. Corporatisation will encourage small filmmakers to receive funding, therefore encouraging new talent and ideas. We have already been seeing much of that in the last couple of years. It has also helped connect Indian films with global audiences. Corporatisation on the exhibition front has resulted in the explosion of multiplexes creating a new and exciting cinematic viewing experience for all audiences. Which one is ideal for the entertainment industry – greenfield or brownfield expansion? The proliferation of malls in the country has been conducive to brownfield expansion, whereas the existence of older cinemas in need of refurbishment has helped greenfield expansion.
