Do you think homosexuality and transgenderism are evolutionary steps?
Well, to correct a misconception, evolution is the changing of frequencies of genes within a population. Therefore the observation that homosexuality exists in species of all branches of evolution (and therefore probably in a very ancient ancestor) does not rule out evolution. Another misconception is that transgenderism is necessarily tied to homosexuality – this does not necessarily destroy the ability to reproduce (in fact, only through the lens of present-day medicine does it do so at times). So yes, it could be an evolutionary step. Of course one major aspect of evolution, the time necessary, means that 1.) we cannot know if an evolutionary step is occurring in response to a very recent change in environment, and 2.) if our environment changes back, it will never have occurred in any significant quality. Therefore, it can only ever be a hypothesis. Another misconception is that evolution must necessarily depend on the fitness of the individual. Modern theories state that evolution
No, homosexuality has always existed in sexual animals. There are gay penguins for crying out loud. Evolution doesn’t work that way either. In order for this to happen, there would have to be a gene mutation that makes someone gay, and as far as I can tell sexuality has to do with hormones and chemical balances in the brain. If there were a gene, it would have to be passed on. Homosexuals don’t reproduce (by natural means anyways) so the gene would disappear. So far, this hasn’t happened. Homosexuals are typically born to straight parents.
