I have to totally agree with your answer from Ghandi, the death penalty is not about punishment, but more about revenge. Our justice system is not 100% correct all the time, no matter how much we might like to think it is… and imagine if Lindy Chamberlain was sentenced to lethal injection for the death of her baby Azaria in 1980 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindy_Chamb… she was convicted, sent to prison and later released with her conviction overturned in 1988. It also has been proven time and time again, in everywhere where the death penalty already exists that it doesn’t reduce the amount of murders, rapes, pedophiles in the community and the death penalty is not a deterrent as effective as a lifetime prison sentence with the embarrassment and segregation from the community. Finally, the costs involved to the taxpayer is much higher when they are sentenced to death instead of a lifetime prison
