Do you think that the food retailers & manufacturers are appreciating the credit crunch?
Food retailers are most hit by the credit crunch as more people are eating in. But manufacturers are affect less as people still need to buy some manufactured goods. Supermarkets are making record profit. Offer higher discounts on essential foodstuff. Government should remove all taxes and Vat from foods. No. Everyone is affected by increase in food prices.
Food costs are high, but some food prices in my area have actually begun to come down a little. Although I am sure the supermarkets are making a profit, supermarkets typically operate on fairly tight margins. It isn’t up to the supermarkets to provide assistance to families in need, although some do offer collection bins where customers can donate food items. I think it is up to people to help one another. Those who are in financial difficulty may need to get another job to support their families. We are living in difficult economic times. I don’t expect the government to lower taxes. That isn’t the way government works. In an ideal world, the government would go back to the basic tenets of the constitution. There are a lot of things the government does which it is not designed to do. We don’t need such a large government. Less government requires fewer taxes. Lower taxes means more money in our pockets. I can sympathize with those in need. I don’t think it is necessary to get the gove
Well world food prices have risen so price rises in the supermarkets are not all down to the retailers, There is a lot of competition so they will all try to claim to be cheapest, Lots of the own brand stuff has been reduced in fact ,, It is mainly the branded stuff that has gone up quite a bit, depends if you are prepared to lower your quality standards a bit… But you need to shop carefully. There is no tax or VAT on food by the way. There is on household articles like detergents, loo rolls etc, Yes I think we have all noticed the increase in prices, This is UK by the way, I understand in USA prices have gone down… One other factor is the exchange rates, The pound is weak against other currencies so imported foods are more expensive .
