The movie the Strangers was inspired by true events of murders that took place in homes including The Manson Murders, and based upon an Austrian couple that was murdered by three teenagers in their vacation home in The Czech Republic. They did not use the same names as the couple that was actually murdered. But the idea of the story and characters were based on actual events.
