No the name Singapore was derived from the word Singapura in Malay language. It means that Singa is lion and pura is city.So singapura means the City of Lion.Formerly in that island were many lions. The symbol of Singapore is the head of a lion. In Indonesian history,Singapore was invaded by Sriwijaya kingdom with the capital city in Palembang southern part of Sumatra island. Then Portugese came to seize the Singapo re island from Sriwijaya Kingdom.Bengkulu province part of the southern of Sumatra island southwestern from Palembang ,was seized by UK.After that ,they exchanged Bengkulu with Singapore. So Singapore became under the UK government and Bengkulu under the Portugese govern ment and the last UK government gave freedom to the Singapore people.
