Does a crescent moon symbol on a necklace mean anything?
Well, there’s lots of different meaning depending upon time and place. The crescent moon is frequently used by Turks and Muslims and is considered a symbol of victory over death. In some religions the goddess was threefold. (remind you of the trinity in Christianity, yeah?) The goddess was the maiden, the woman/mother, the crone. The crone was not a witch but rather a mature and wise woman. If the crescent moon is waxing it is the maiden; if waning, the crone. Obviously the full moon is the fertile mother personification. But I always see the crescent moon as a symbol of Diana (Artemis to the Greeks), Goddess of the Hunt and chastity. Because the crescent moon appears horn shaped some religions saw it as a sign for the archaic Horned God or the more recent devil. If you go to Google and enter “crescent moon symbolism” you will get lots more interpretations.
It depends on the person. To some the crescent moon is symbolic of…well the moon, (depending on which way it’s facing) could represent the waning or waxing of the moon (growing smaller or larger) which could symbolize someones desire to bring or push away something. But then there are some who just plain like the crescent moon for no other reason than esthetics.
