ISO 14000 is a series of voluntary standards. ISO 14001 is the foundation document of the entire series, and is the ONLY "specification" standard to which one can be registered. All other documents in the series are "guidance standards" that support an organization or organization's environmental management system, but are not required, even if an ISO 14001 EMS is implemented. Organizations are not required to comply with or implement any of these standards. Back to List of Questions Go Back to Top of Page Should my organization implement the ISO 14001 EMS standard?
